INTERNATIONAL OPEN CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF DIRECTOR OF THE MACBA MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART OF BARCELONA
The MACBA Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona opens an international public competition to select its new director and applications will be accepted until 7 May 2021.
The candidate must have proven leadership skills and the ability to represent the museum in a wide range of ambits and to build and develop networks of internal and external relations. They must ensure that the MACBA maintains its prestige as a flagship international institution, formulate a policy on exhibitions, activities and academic publications of excellence and continue to strengthen the museum’s collection.
The selection panel will consist of recognised members of the international and local art world: Chris Dercon, President of the Réunion des musées nationaux – Grand Palais, Paris, and a member of the MACBA Advisory Committee; João Fernandes, former Deputy Director of the Museo Nacional Reina Sofía and Artistic Director of the Instituto Moreira Salles, Rio de Janeiro; Ann-Sofi Noring, Ex-Co-Director and Chief Curator of the Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Vice-Chancellor of the Royal Academy and Chairman of the Swedish Arts Grants Committee; a representative of the MACBA’s staff; María Dolores Jiménez-Blanco Carrillo de Albornoz, Director-General of Fine Arts, Spanish Ministry of Culture; Joan Subirats, Deputy Mayor, Barcelona City Council; Elsa Ibar, Director-General of Cultural Heritage, Government of Catalonia; and Ainhoa Grandes, President of the MACBA Foundation.
