From 26 February to 1 March, Madrid will once again become the epicentre of the contemporary art scene with ARCOmadrid 2020. A total of 209 galleries from 30 countries are participating in this event, which once again has its main structure in the General Programme, in addition to the curated sections.

“It’s Just a Matter of Time” is the special proposal in this edition. This section is curated by Alejandro Cesarco and Mason Leaver-Yap, consisting of 16 artists from 13 galleries and from which artistic practices will be observed based on the work of Felix Gonzalez-Torres. The Dialogues programme, composed of 10 galleries selected by Agustín Pérez Rubio and Lucía Sanromán, will offer an analysis of contemporary creation focused on the dialogue between two creators, paying special attention to women’s art practices in Latin America and on sharing the work of different generations of artists. And Opening will once again be the space for discovering exciting new proposals at the fair with 21 galleries selected by Tiago de Abreu Pinto and Övül Ö. Durmusoglu, who will represent the commitment to up-and-coming international gallery activity.

The next edition will feature renowned galleries that have placed their trust in ARCOmadrid, such as Massimo Minini and Francesca Minini; Perrotin; Sies+Höke; Buchholz; Barbara Weiss; Nordenhake and Jan Mot. And with the return of galleries like Ellen de Bruijne Projects; Hollybush Gardens and Martin Janda. Not to mention other big names that continue to support the fair, such as Hauser & Wirth; Thaddeaus Ropac; Chantal Crousel; Esther Schipper; Meyer Riegger; Continua; Fortes d’Aloia & Gabriel; Dvir and Luisa Strina.

ARCOmadrid is also interested in new galleries that, either because of their relative lack of experience or being new to Spain, present interesting proposals and give us the opportunity to discover other creators. Accordingly, the fair will be a place to explore galleries like Anglim Gilbert; Cortesi; Fran Reus; Gypsum; Krakow Witkin Gallery; Movart; Superficie; Suprainfinit and The Pill.

Spanish gallery participation has increased slightly, which broadens the perspective and allows interesting pieces from other parts of the country to be seen. ATM -Gijón-, Art Nueve -Murcia-, Ángeles Baños -Badajoz- and Nordes -Santiago de Compostela-, thus join projects such as PM8 -Vigo- and L21 -Palma de Mallorca-, among others at the fair.

Alongside quality, the investigation, discovery and knowledge of artists are the essence of ARCOmadrid. A significant number of galleries are taking part with programmes focused on the presentation of one or two artists, reinforcing ARCOmadrid as a space for artists’ work to become known. From the Solo/Duo of the General Programme, with Laura Lima and Marcius Galan –Luisa Strina-; Jef Geys and Ei Arakawa –Max Mayer-; Enzo Cucchi and Adrián Balseca -Madragoa-, to curated programmes with Jac Leirner – Franco Noero-; Hudinilson Jr. -Jaqueline Martins-; Nohemí Pérez and Óscar Murillo -Instituto De Visión-; Lynn Hershman Leeson and Bruce Conner – Anglim Gilbert-; Yonamine –Jahmek-; Lucas Simões and Estefanía Landesmann –Pasto-. Similarly, artist projects will be of particular interest in this edition, and will involve Ai Weiwei; Alfredo Jaar; Mario Merz; Aurelia Muñoz, Tony Oursler and Kiki Smith, as well as younger creators such as Sara Ramo, Álvaro Urbano and Voluspa Jarpa.

The commitment to give a greater voice to artists will also be reflected in the Artists Forum talks in which Ignasi Aballí, Anthony McCall, Eli Cortiñas, Rafael RG, Yonamine, Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa, Mariela Scafati, Daniel Canogar and Jaume Plensa will be participating, among others, as well as the Arts Libris presentations, in which creators are brought in to explore their work further in different sessions open to the public and organised by the section curators and other guests, and that will allow their creative processes and investigation frameworks to be understood.

Likewise, the collectors invited to ARCOmadrid – more than 300 from 40 different countries – will be offered guided tours led by artists.

NEW: we propose guided tours during public days with professionals from the world of contemporary art to better understand the work of artists and facilitate the tour of the fair. You can find the information in arcomadrid.es
